Love to Love You, Baby

Kitch

You know how much we love midcentury graphics.
And album covers. And calypso. And Negroes.

Why We Love Julie London

Just a few of the many reasons...

We adore her intimate vocal stylings.
And anyone who poses with their legs in the air is good by us!

A Guilty Pleasure

We don't remember if we mentioned this before---memory is the first thing to go, youngsters!---but Linda Ronstadt's Mad Love album has a special place in our heart. At the time, it was hailed as the soft-rock superstar's stab at "new wave", which was all the rage back then. Needless to say, true punks and new wavers found it a joke, with music critics only slightly less amused. The dichotomy of her studied, interpretive singing and the spontaneity that rock demands was never more obvious. Listening to it now, it's apparent that what at first was intended to be a regular Ronstadt disc (it includes the hit "Hurts So Bad") had a few Elvis Costello covers slapped on to make it seem relevant. The result is a mixed bag, with her vocals more mannered than usual, but it's actually kinda fun. We thoroughly enjoy it! Perhaps it just reminds us of when we were a young gayling, moving on from mainstream divas to edgier gals like Debbie Harry, Martha Davis and Chrissie Hynde. It was a simpler time, to be sure.

(This is dedicated to our sister; we both love singing along with this album. Try it at home!)
