A Fabulon Classic: Mitzi Gaynor

One of the most popular videos we have ever posted, this will make your day twice as fabulous and three times as gay!

Bette and Sophie

No, silly rabbits, not Bette Davis and Sophie Tucker! Better Midler and her daughter Sophie, all grown up.

(Of course, fans will know that Ms. Midler was indeed named for Bette Davis, and no doubt Sophie Tucker was an inspiration as well.)

Have A Fabulous Weekend, Darlings!

Though it has been a while since we've had a Guest Host, this Sunday the tradition continues when the lovely and talented Nathaniel from the Film Experience Blog dons his best tiara and shares his brand of fabulosity. Can't wait to see what he comes up with!

Anna Magnani

"Women like me can only submit to men capable of dominating them, and I have never found anyone capable of dominating me."

DV

When Diana Vreeland had famed decorator Billy Baldwin do her Park Avenue living room, she told him, "I want this room to be a garden---but a garden in hell!"

Hi-Girl

Just blow the boys and do some crack!

So she can be a bigger whore!

Disney Divas

Fabulous drag queens, all of 'em!

Memphis Chairs

In addition to heaps of post-modern irony, the New Wave movement of the late seventies and early eighties often involved a certain spareness, trimming things down to their angular essence. This holds true of both music and design of the time, and reached it's apex with the creations of the Memphis Design Group, who actually managed to take a minimalist sensibility and make it excessive. And expensive!

(The above items are from our personal collection, located in the Liquid Sky area of Fabulon.)

Nancy Sinatra

When Nancy Sinatra's self-titled "comeback" album was released a few years back, we were underwhelmed. Perhaps we were in the wrong frame of mind---unusual for us. This evening, after a rare visit from Miss Mary Jane, we randomly put it in the old victrola, and what do ya know: we love it! Though the music is decidedly contemporary, ultimately it shows how timeless her brand of pop music truly is. It's a tad uneven, but pretty groovy none the less. And rather eclectic. Hearing her sing the line "Then some skinny bitch walks by in some hotpants" is priceless. Does one song sound like something by the Smiths? Morrisey wrote it. Another reminiscent of Sonic Youth weirdness? Thurston Moore is to thank. Standouts include Burnin' Down the Spark, Don't Let Him Waste Your Time, and Bossman, but the entire endeavor is a welcome return from an under-rated icon.

About a decade ago, we saw Nancy perform at Chicago's fabulous Park West. She was great! Amazingly, from where we sat she looked exactly the same as she did thirty years earlier, and you know that ain't right. Of course, we had consumed countless black russians (and later got into all sorts of trouble!) so perhaps we had our "glamour goggles" on. During the middle of her set, she was joined by the great Lee Hazlewood, who was quite obviously even more intoxicated than we were. Yet they effortlessly did all of their big songs, and the whole show was enjoyable. When she sang Sugar Town, we truly had a moment, as everyone sang along during the chorus. Corny? You bet. An audience of drunken middle-aged hipsters? Lots of 'em. Fabulous? Of course!

Down With Love

We are not fans of The Zellweger, and frankly were quite disappointed with the movie Down With Love. It could have---and should have---been so much more. However, Ewan McGregor makes everything better. Even when he's fully clothed!

We've shamelessly grabbed these images from our friend TJB's wonderful blog, Stirred, Straight Up, with a Twist, because, frankly, Nancy Kwan is fabulous and so are we. So is TJB. And so are you!
