Speaking of Movies...

Much to our delight, we were recently gifted with The Joan Crawford Collection of dvds. As this wonderful set includes one of our favorites, The Women, we thought that would be the best place to start. What Fabulonian wouldn't?
We watched it with a friend who had seen the horrid remake but not the original, and honestly we still don't know if she liked it or not. One thing is certain, though: WE LOVE IT! Yes, there are a few scenes that drag, and the entire affair is somewhat absurd and quite dated, yet this entertaining bauble serves as an interesting and amusing time capsule. What a different world it was 70 years ago! And yet, how oddly fabulous! "Gowns by Adrian". Need we say more? OK, Norma Shearer as Mrs. Stephen Haines. Rosalind Russell as Mrs. Howard Fowler. And, of course, Joan Crawford as Crystal Allen. Throw in Mary Boland as the Countess de Lave and it's fabulosity overload. A sassy screenplay, fun sets, and an endless parade of women, ably directed by George Cukor, make this classic worth watching again and again.
