Thom, you scamp -- you beat me to the punch! I've been meaning to get Viv on my blog for a while. She's SO great. I love Lucy, but her antics wouldn't have been half as funny without Viv's priceless reactions.

"How can you stand there in the middle of all this mess and utter those four horrible words, 'I've got an idea!'"

P.S. She loved the gays, too -- her last husband was one.

Aw, love her! I always thought she could do so much better than Fred. When I was a kid I used to hope that eventually, Ethel and Ricky would run off together.

I highly recommend "The Other Side of Ethel Mertz: The Life Story of Vivian Vance" by Frank Castelluccio and Alvin Walker.
