Speaking of Movies...

Based on Graham Greene's acclaimed novel, this tale of love and faith is a throwback to another era of film-making, one in which movies unfolded at their own pace, and the audience is not pandered to but instead assumed to be adult and intelligent. Director Neil Jordan does a straightforward job, allowing the nuanced performances of his able cast to evoke what the screenplay does not. Stephen Rea, Ralph Fiennes, and especially the radiant Julianne Moore make this well worth watching. Romantic and rainy, sexy and sad. Recommended.
