Fags of Our Fathers: Dirk Bogarde

Our latest FOOF, Dirk Bogarde was as lovely as he was talented. Known and respected for taking on challenging roles in films such as Victim, The Servant, The Damned, Night Porter, Darling, and Death in Venice, he was also in Modesty Blaise. We'll always love him for it.

Legend has it that in 1990 Madonna approached him to appear in her "Justify My Love" video, but he declined. As far as we're concerned, the fag who can say "no" to Madonna does not need to justify anything!

He really was a friend of Dorothy!

I saw him recently in a 1970's Judy Garland documentary. And all I could think of was "woof"

The man was just dead sexy.

In "Victim," he was blackmailed because he was...well, a FOOF. Pretty daring stuff for 1961.

In real life, Sir Dirk, understandably, denied he was gay during his lifetime, but inexplicably used a romance with Judy Garland as his primary proof of heterosexuality.

As we all know, love and/or marriage with Judy OR Liza pretty much seals your Nancy-ness.

When I was a young lad and watched "Death in Venice," I couldn't figure out why he was so into that lithe blondie boy with the curls. I thought Dirk was waaaaaay more attractive!

Until that dye started running down his face ... quite the image buster. But I still thought he was gorgeous!

I actually own Victim & Night Porter on VHS tape...'cause I'm a HUGE Dirk Bogarde fan!

I always thought he was one of the most underrated, underemployed of 60's/70's brit actors.
