Speaking of Movies...

Ignore the plot and questionable acting. Farinelli is all about sound and vision. Sumptuous visuals and breathtakingly beautiful music make this film a must for fans of the fabulous.

I always heard this movie was made because Hollywood was too chickenshit to make Anne Rice's "Cry To Heaven".
Gorgeous film, though. Didn't the producers use Alsessandro Moreschi's, the last castrati, recorded voice as a template to accurately portray Farinelli's voice for the film? Tom darling, correct me of course. Considering your own incredible singing talent, I bow to your knowledge of such things.

Oops. That's Alessandro Moreschi.

"Cry to Heaven" is one of my very favorite Anne Rice books, and I'm a Rice queen! Based on what's already been made, none of her tomes should be filmed. Much better left to the imagination!

The "Farinelli" team did study Moreschi's vocals, then went on to morph a countertenor with a soprano through the wonders of modern technology. The result became the biggest-selling classical album in France!

(Thanks for the sweet compliment, EmP! XOXOXO)

Thanks so much for the awesome info on "Farinelli", Thom darling!
Going to Amazon to buy the CD!

Love "Cry to Heaven"!
When Tonio is kidnapped--
Where Guido professes his love for Tonio--
The scene w/ the Bishop is so prescient! (Kinda sexy... eek! Who said that!)
Gorgeous writing... I miss her past work. There was such depth; a lush, passionate quality to her prose.
I remember calling "Interview With The Vampire" "The Enchanted Nightmare" when I 1st read it @ 14. Changed my life.
Her current work seems to be borne of grief, fear & regret.

PS: Just stating a fact, Sweetie!
MWAH!

It's true, those early works were life-changing for many readers, myself included. But at some point she became a writing machine, and I think now she's going through some sort of atonement for that.

She's definitely worthy of a Fabulon post. As is her son!

Someone needs to immediately write a lush, lavish Gothic novel entitled "The Enchanted Nightmare," possibly based on the photos above (it would lkely provide a better storyline than the actual film did, after all).

Or perhaps it could be based on all of our lives...

Muscato darling, you're amazing! It's now officially on my "why haven't you written something like this, you idiot" list.

I agree, Thom darling. Esp. Christopher. He doesn't have his mom's power, but his writing does have a distinct style. A friend @ Showtime (who did such an incredible job adapting "The Feast of All Saints"-- Anne Rice's ONLY successful adaptation to the screen) is talking to the makers of US "Queer as Folk" re: making "Blind Fall" into a miniseries.
